Position summary
The World Resources Institute (WRI) Beijing office seeks a full-time Research Assistant to support research and project management on Greenhouse Gas Protocol and energy efficiency financing in China. The position will provide analytical, research, writing, communication, and administrative support to develop GHG Protocol standards and tools, support GHG management programs, develop energy efficiency financing tools, build capacity on GHG accounting, and facilitate energy efficiency financing in China.
Major responsibilities
The Research Assistant will report to the GHG Protocol China Program Manager and provide research and administrative assistance to various WRI PCA program managers and components leads, including:
- Assist GHG Protocol China Program Manager and GHG Protocol Associates with the development and promotion of GHG quantification tools and standards, including the power sector tool, and tools for Product and Corporate Value Chain Standards
- Assist GHG Protocol City Associate with research on provincial and municipal GHG accounting framework and tools
- Assist Energy Efficiency Program Manager with research on financing industrial energy efficiency improvements
- Coordinate meetings and facilitate various stakeholder events and interaction; proofread, edit, and translate working documents; and manage relevant contracts, travels, and research activities
- Assist with project reporting, grant proposals, communication materials, and other project management activities
- Recruit interns for the Climate and Energy Program in the China office, manage intern contracts and facilitate work allocations among interns.
- Support other program activities of the WRI China office upon the request of his/her supervisor.
Qualifications
- One year or more experience in relevant field
- Masters in economics, engineering, environmental science, public policy, public administration, or a related field
- Solid research and writing ability, preferably publication experience
- Excellent computer and quantitative analytical skills
- Attention to details and strong organizational skills
- Proven skills in project execution, stakeholder engagement, and analytical research
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, report writing, and presentation skills
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Mandarin
- Willingness and ability to travel, internationally and within China
Highly preferred
- Knowledge of GHG emissions accounting and measurement protocols
- Experience on programming and strong Excel skills
- Experience in the industry sector and working with ESCOs and industry companies
- Knowledge of international and Chinese energy and climate policies
- International experience, including working or studying aboard, or with multinational corporations and international NGOs
More experienced candidates can be considered for the Research Analyst position.
Salary and benefits
Salary for full-time position is commensurate with experience and includes benefits.
