About the Book
Advanced Modern Macroeconomics, by Max Gillman, takes a new and modern approach to macroeconomic theory using microeconomic foundations. Building from the standard neo-classical models, Gillman has developed a new dynamic model which works to explain business cycles and unemployment, why you can have a banking lead recession as well as fiscal and monetary policy. Although strong in mathematical rigour all calculations in this text are fully derived and graphs provide a direct representation making it accessible.
This text consists of 20 Chapters. It is suitable for undergraduate students studying Advanced Macroeconomics courses. Chapters 1-7 or Chapters 1-10 could be an Advanced Undergraduate course in Macro. Chapters 10-20 would suit a Masters or First year PhD course in Macro. The second half of the book, starting in Chapter 10, provides dynamic analysis based on the Ramsey-Cass-Koopmans model, including derivation of AS-AD in the context, plus dynamic analysis with Lucas (1988) Human Capital - based endogenous growth, again including derivation of AS-AD in the context.
ALL OF THE ANALYSIS, AND ALL OF THE BOOK, IS WITH A CLOSED-FORM ANALYTIC SOLUTION. This involves solving systems of equations, and either a unique solution and at worse a quadratic equation with two solutions, but with one ruled out.
Advanced Modern Macroeconomics: Analysis and Application
Advanced Modern Macroeconomics provides a back-to-basics approach to macroeconomics. Requiring only a microeconomics background, the book is a comprehensive introduction to macroeconomics that builds the essential elements in a methodologically consistent fashion.
